Web Development
for ROS 2

Learn to create web applications for your ROS 2 robots

Course overview

Web applications are a key feature in robotics since they allow you to provide an interface for robots that can be used by anybody (especially inexperienced users).

In this course, you will learn to build simple, interactive web applications that you can integrate into your robotics development.

What You Will Learn

N

Rosbridge: Use the Rosbridge to connect your web pages to ROS

N

HTML5: Learn to build web pages containing the necessary elements to display your desired information.

N

CSS3: Learn to style your web pages to make them look great

N

JavaScript: Learn basic instructions, types, arrays, and objects starting from programming logic.

N

ReactJS: Learn to create scalable web applications by providing an organized folder structure and compiler for your web components

Simulated Robot Used

FastBot Simulation

In this course, you'll use the FastBot simulation — an open-source ROS 2 robot — to practice building and testing web applications for robotics.

Syllabus

Unit 1: Course Introduction

In this unit, you'll get an overview of the course objectives and what to expect on your learning journey. We'll cover:

  • What you’ll learn
  • Course outline
  • Robot you’ll use
  • Requirements

Unit 2: HTTP Server

In this unit, you will learn how HTTP servers work and use one to create your first simple web application.

Unit 3: HTML Basics

In this unit, you'll learn the core building blocks of web pages: HTML (HyperText Markup Language).

Unit 4: Working with the Forms

In this unit, you'll learn about HTML forms, a fundamental feature that enables user interaction on web pages.

Unit 5: CSS - Styles for webpages

In this unit, you'll be introduced to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), the language used to control the visual appearance of web pages.

Unit 6: CSS - Exploring attributes

In this unit, you'll learn CSS styling by exploring some of the most commonly used CSS properties that control the layout and appearance of elements on a web page.

Unit 7: JavaScript

In this unit, you will learn JavaScript, the programming language that brings interactivity and dynamic behavior to web pages.

Unit 8: Working with Arrays

In this unit, you'll explore the Array class in JavaScript, one of the most commonly used data structures in web development.

Unit 8: ReactJS

In this unit, you’ll be introduced to ReactJS, one of the most popular JavaScript libraries for building dynamic and interactive user interfaces.

Unit 8: Creating components

In this unit, you’ll dive deeper into ReactJS by learning about components, the core building blocks of any React application.

What our students think

"I have had a great experience with The Construct. I believe much of what I have learned thus far regarding ROS has been from these courses and the concepts behind the implementation of ROS have been helpful even outside of ROS applications."
Sam Daly

"I'm very happy about working with The Constructsim, it is affordable, it is very comfortable for me, and the tools in the GUI are very useful"
Bladimir Bacca Cortes

"I really liked the learning approach based on projects and practical examples and I found the final project with an actual robot to be very useful and challenging."
